Clive Waye's Racewaye
1974 TT
Picture and information kindly donated by Pat Jeal
The Japanese guys gave the RaceWaye a good look over and next year's Suzuki had side radiators! I think the RG was
ridden by Jack Findlay.
1975 TT
This is an attempt to piece together what happened in the 1975 TT from various newspaper clippings.
Monday
Number 39 (Senior or classic?) confirmed from photos. Practice. Bike caught fire in the first evening practice and was nearly completely burn out. Only the frame and exhausts pipe were salvaged. Rebuild started.
Friday
Rebuild finished by lunchtime with parts flown in from the mainland. Phil Gurner was the rider and the engine was run in that afternoon at Jurby airfield giving Phil the chance to qualify the machine in the final practice session that evening. A big end cage broke up at Greeba.
Wednesday
This could be the Wednesday after the above Friday or before, probably the one after. The bike made it to the start line of the senior but failed on the second lap with carburation problems. This information is not backed up by the official TT website. The Racewaye does not appear in the entry list of the senior and Phil Gurner rode a Yamaha that day where he died in an accident. The bike does appear in the Classic entry list where it recorded a DNF ridden by Nigel Rollason. So this information may be about the classic rather than the senior. The senior was on the Wednesday though.
1976 TT
Tuesday Evening Senior 500cc Practice
Fifth fastest ridden by Tom Newell 24.25.6 (92.67mph).
1976 International Classic TT (300-1000cc) 12 June
Retired after 2 laps ridden by Steve Moyniham (a replacement for Nigel Rollason?). Number 65. Times 24.39.4 and 24.04.0.
1976 Isle of Man Grand Prix (Manx Grand Prix)
Monday August 30
Number 46 (Senior) confirmed from photos. Started evening practice with Neil Kelly on board.
Race Day
On the fifth lap Neil Kelly had to stop to remove a loose exhaust pipe, but carried on to finish the sixth lap with a time of 2.28.17.2 and an average speed 91.59 mph.
I have several clippings and race reports saying that the Racecwaye finished 9th out of 110 machines in the Manx Grand Prix. Neil Kelly was the rider and best time was 23 minutes and 48 seconds.
Other races
Cadwell Park International Road Races. May Senior International. For solo machines 251cc to 1000cc. Entered number 67 ridden by Tom Newell. (Barry Sheene was also in this race on a 750cc Suzuki, number 7.) I dont have the finishing place.
1976 Grand Prix Silverstone
Was entered as a reserve in the Senior 500cc Race to be ridden by Alan Rogers. Also entered in the 1000cc Race again with Alan Rogers. (Number 77)
1976 Endurance Grand Prix Thruxton 26th September
Number 42 Ridden by Tom Newell and Alan Rogers.
